South Burnett Arthritis Care Program
South Burnett Physiotherapy in conjunction with Murgon Family Medical Centre
We're proud to launch our specialised Arthritis Care Program, led by experienced physiotherapists and doctors who are passionate about helping you take control of your joint health. This comprehensive, evidence-based program is tailored to individuals dealing with the challenges of osteoarthritis. Our goal is to help you reduce pain, improve mobility, and enhance overall quality of life — without the need for surgery.
Our structured Arthritis Care program combines education about osteoarthritis with exercises designed to improve strength, mobility and movement of the hip and knee joints
-
Our Arthritis Care Program is a structured program of education and exercise designed to help reduce the symptoms of hip and/or knee osteoarthritis.
The program includes 12 x supervised exercise sessions over 6 weeks, along with education sessions. Each session—whether education or exercise—lasts about 45 minutes. These sessions are delivered by local experienced physiotherapists who have received specific training in the arthritis care.
Participants are asked to complete questionnaires about their health and experiences with osteoarthritis before starting the program, and again at 3 months and 12 months. Your clinician will also perform progression assessments.
-
Our program is designed specifically to help people of all ages experiencing mild, moderate and severe knee and/or hip osteoarthritis by reducing pain, increasing mobility and enhancing quality of life.
Often surgery such as joint replacement can be avoided or delayed when participants experience significant improvements in pain, function and quality of life.
-
Eligible participants may be able to use Medicare funding to cover costs of assessments and some people may be eligible to access publicly-funded services.
-
The Arthritis Care Program exercise component includes a set of 10 targeted exercises, along with a warm-up and cool-down, designed to improve strength and function around the hips and knees. Sessions are conducted in small groups of around four to six people, creating a supportive and engaging environment.
In each session, all participants complete the same exercises, but at a level that is safely tailored to their individual abilities. Clinicians delivering the Arthritis Care Program have received specialised training to adapt and customise the exercises to meet each person’s unique needs and capabilities.
